If (like me) you aren’t great at determining what colours go well together and compliment each other, there are tons of resources for colour design available online. Some are aimed at graphic designers and artists, but that doesn’t make them any less useful for home decor purposes. These apps are great place to start when deciding on the colours to use in a nursery or kids room.
Coolors.co – Available on iOS and on Desktop Coolors very simply lets you lock in a base colour and hit the spacebar on your keyboard to generate complimentary tones. Once you are done you can export to image. You can also pick colours from your favourite image (download ideas from Pinterest or Insta) and then base your inspiration from that. They also have a brand new swanky Instagram page worth a follow.
Pinterest – If you haven’t already heard of Pinterest – where have you been? Pinterest is a great resource for all things visual, and if you haven’t already signed up, you have no trouble finding ready made colour scheme boards that place complimentary colours together for you. Just like some of the boards that we’ve found ourselves.
Design Seeds – Design Seeds is an entire blog dedicated to colour schemes for interiors. You’ll be sure to find a variety of nursery schemes in here just by selecting your favourite base colour. An incredible resource for colour. Must see.
Vivid Paint Colours – We’ve all been there – its easy to get absolutely bamboozled by the varieties of colour available in B&Q. Worry no more – if you’ve got a favourite paint brand, chances are this app has all the colours and ranges available in their swatches. So now you can colour match easily at home.
Adobe Color is another fantastic resource at generating complimentary colour palettes. This application lets you explore what colour schemes are on trend across a variety of genres.
